Lough Mardal Eco Lodge
For every well-known tourist hot-spot there are a small handful of alternative accommodation providers, slightly off the beaten track, offering something that little bit different...

Set on 90 acres, Lough Mardal Lodge is a lakeshore eco retreat in Donegal, offering luxury Yurt and Shepherd’s Hut glamping. Wide open skies, uninterrupted views and cosy firesides. Immersed in the wild Donegal countryside, it is infused with a gentle calm.
At its heart is a uniquely designed ecobuilding - The Lodge – drenched in light with warm all-natural architecture echoing the landscape around it, designed for slow living and slow breathing.
Wake up to unparalleled tranquillity looking out upon a beautiful lakeside setting. Each Yurt is well-spaced across the bogland ensuring a complete sense of seclusion and privacy. Fully-insulated and luxuriously furnished with crisp white linen, sheepskins and Donegal woollen blankets.
Providing a true disconnect from the white noise of modern life the Yurts are off-grid, lit by lantern and candlelight, adding to the sense of otherworldliness. With your warm fire crackling, lie in bed staring up at the stars through your clear sky dome.

Traditionally used by shepherds to watch over their flock at night but you can sleep at ease here, no sheep...only a deer or two. The Shepherd's Hut is simply, but luxuriously, furnished with a beautiful lake and woodland view. Its wood-burning stove makes it all the more snug.
Sit out on the veranda with a glass of wine, soak up the views and listen to the background hum of wildlife.

Whether it be a session in the lakeside sauna, or a metabolism-boosting cold plunge in the lake, stargazing and philosophising with kindred spirits around a campfire, falling asleep to the sound of the drumming Snipe or waking to the sound of the Cuckoo - this is your opportunity to lock-up your devices for a digital detox, drop down a few gears, and reconnect with what matters.
Immersed within a habitat for protected and declining species of wildlife the Lodge has been designed to exist in harmony with the landscape and with sustainability a driving principle. The policies in place, e.g. compost toilets, off-grid accommodation, low-waste, low-tech, etc. all help keep us aligned to this and in doing so we ensure minimal impact on our natural environment. As part of this we are proud to have achieved eco certification.
